I Learned 8-4-11 and Winner Announced
Lifestyle

I learned that I have come a long way in two years!! I know I already shared 21 lessons I learned in my 2nd year of shooting on manual mode but I really want to see what you guys have learned as well!

Let’s do something different this week!! I would love it if everyone would post one of their first photos they took on manual as well as a current one they are proud of. Show off your progress!! Even if you have only been shooting on manual for a few months, I bet you have grown some!

As always
1. Post one photo from when you started and a current one. Feel free to share what you have learned since you started on manual mode!
2. Link your permalink, not your blog address, check out the I Learned Tab if you need help with this
3. Attach our button to your post
4. Ask for critiques if you want them and post your settings
5. Leave a comment on at least 5 other posts
6. Open Thursday 8am – Sunday 8am (Japan time) or Wednesday 6pm – Saturday 6pm (EST)

I can’t wait to see how you have grown!!!

P.S. We are preparing for a pretty big typhoon so I may loose power. I have my posts set up so they will publish even if I don’t have power, but I may not be able to reply to comments or answer emails. Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen :O)

It was so close this month!! Seriously, neck and neck! Congrats to Jennifer @ Jennifer K Photography for winning July’s “I Clicked it Up a Notch” photography contest!! What a beautiful photo!! Feel free to grab the special button and display it proudly :O)

Congratulations to Jennifer! It is a lovely photo.

Both are great shots Courtney, but the second definately has a nicer look. I’m not even sure why. The black and white is more dramatic. I wonder if the differences would be so noticable if the first shot was also B&W?

Now, I’m off to look through my shots to see if I’ve grown.

Great post (21 Lessons) Courtney! Some great lessons in there! I definitely found the organized system for photos, actions and textures is a huge time saver. I’m tweaking my system as I go along, as it’s a real sanity saver! I’d love to be able to write my own actions, but you need Photoshop to do that for PSE.
And light can definitely make a photo! I’m trying to learn that one!

I actually think this is a great idea to share an earlier photo and a recent one!! I will try to do this sometime in the next week or so…shooting my first wedding on Saturday so super busy planning and getting nervous! hahaLove your two shots!

Wow, that photo of your daughter in B&W is gorgeous! She looks so beautiful in both and you can see how much she’s grown. I love the idea of showing an earlier photo; I can’t wait to dig in my archives and find one. I think I started manual around the same time as you.

I loved your post about what you have learned since starting your photography journey. I also adore being able to see the before and after pictures because it reminds me that there is always room to grow. I am still learning so I find things like this very inspiring.

    That B&W is amazing:)
Entered, but tomorrow morning (when im on the computer- iPhone now) I have to go back and find another “before” pic. I misread it, and thought it was just one manual pic. :)

Ohh I love this idea. I’ve got to go through my trip photos when I first got my camera. I don’t know if I was totally manual then, Trying to remember when I went M! lol…
The B&W is adorable, the shadows are really amazing the way they bring out the cheeks.

Both photos are lovely but my goodness the second one is stunning! The light is beautiful and so is your daughter. I can definitely see how far you’ve come :)

I really enjoyed your 21 lessons post. This is a great idea to post photos showing our progression. I think it was a guest post on dreamy lighting you featured here that encouraged me to move from aperture priority to manual. I’m so glad I did!
I love that 2nd image of your daughter! You have definitely clicked it up a notch!
