I Learned 6-9-11
Lifestyle

I learned why everyone struggles shooting 2 year olds! Oh boy!! I took Emma out this past week to do her 2 year old birthday shot (I know I’m 3 months behind). She was not interested in it at all! She cried, ran away, and kept letting go of the balloons. After 15 minutes I had to call it quits. I think I got 2 shots :O) Here is just an example of how she really felt about the whole thing!

Now it’s your turn. What did you learn this week?? You know the old saying “You learn something new everyday!” Take pictures of it and share with us!! Some weeks you may learn a photography skill and want critiques. GREAT!! Share and ask for them! If you didn’t learn a new photography skill but something about yourself or life, that is great too! Post a picture and tell us what you learned. Can’t wait to see your pictures and find out what you learned!!

As always
1. Post one photo and tell us what you learned.
2. Link your permalink, not your blog address, check out the I Learned Tab if you need help with this.
3. Attach our button to your post
4. Ask for critiques if you want them and post your settings
5. Leave a comment on 5 other posts

i actually learned the value of calibrating my computer with a program that I bought. A definite difference and that will actually impact my editing now…because what I am now seeing is accurate and what I saw before wasn’t exactly Neat lesson learned.

I have the same trouble with my 4 year old, except instead of crying she pouts, lol. I like to call it her ‘duck face’ because her lips stick out so far ;D

This cracks me up and of course, I can relate.

Regarding calibration……..I went to the Apple store to have them help me calibrate my monitor and he said it depends on what my photos look like after print. He said it was best to calibrate it based on the same printer, so I left discouraged, because I don’t currently use the same place every time.

I keep meaning to look into it more, as I know it would change my editing. Guess I’ll be heading over to Clickin’ Moms for some tutorials.

Yes, he is right to a point. I think if your computer is not calibrated than you should pick a lab that has prints that come out like they are on your screen. That is why lots of labs offer free test prints. So you can compare and see which lab is best for you. However, I think that if you are calibrated it shouldn’t make that big of a difference.

My “what have I learned this week” picture isn’t complete so I’m adding the info here. I’m just getting started in my photo. business and taking pictures of toddlers is definitely a challenge. I learned this week that with a little help from my miniature sized Elmo playing peek a boo behind my camera worked like a charm (at least for these 2 boys it did!) Would love feedback if anyone has any helpful comments. :)

Hey Courtney, actually I edit in PS (elements) pictures that I really really love and want to “pop” more. i LOVE LR but sometimes I think photoshop can make things look a little more polished. I use the “edit in” feature in lightroom, do you ever use that? it will take you to your photoshop through lightroom, then when you are done, it takes you back to LR so that you can export. it’s awesome! although it does take longer so really I only do it on maybe 2 percent of my pictures. LOL.

You still got a super cute shot on your 365! I’m glad I’m not the only one that has an uncooperative subject/child at times. But it’s worth it when you get those wonderful photos of them.
