Photographers Rights - Why Didn't I Think of That? Wednesday

Do you know your rights as a photographer? Did you know there are certain places that you are not allowed to take photos?

I know when I used to work for a city in WA in the Parks and Recreation Department they required professional photographers to get permission to take photos in their parks. I also heard it is illegal to take photos on railroad tracks in TX. And when we went to Tokyo Disney I was told I wasn’t allowed to use my tripod.

Be sure to do some research of your own! Check your local laws.

I would hate for you to get in trouble, make this face, and wonder why didn’t I think of that??

I THINK that I saw a sign in Comprehensive park that you are not allowed to take photos or videos there for commercial purposes…anyone know? Not that it matters to me, since I’m not a commercial photographer, but maybe to others!

Must be a Tokyo Disney thing- I go to Walt Disney World 2-3 times a year (I’m obsessed….) and I always bring a tripod.
I recently wanted to go to an outdoor garden park, and I read online that you needed to fill out a contract and wear a badge to bring and use a tripod.

I just love your blog and all the info and tips you share. I know I will be back to read more. :) I had this type of situation when trying to immigrate to American. I had just received my finance visa and my cousin went to take a photo of me right outside of the american consulate in Montreal Canada. Not a good idea. We had a guard rushing out yelling at us to stop. I’ll never forget that. :)

Oh crap! I live in WA and now I’m worried. Haha Better go check out where you need permission to shoot in parks. Hopefully we’re not in an area where that’s an issue. Thanks for the tips though, I love your site. :)

Thanks for sharing those links – they are really informative.

Thus far, I’ve only been asked to stop photographing in two places – a mall and an alley (apparently it was privately owned, which would explain why it was so pretty!).
